Masao Kawasaki

Masao Kawasaki was born in Tokyo, Japan. He holds an Artist Diploma from the Juilliard School where he studied under legendary Dorothy Delay. Mr. Kawasaki is head of the viola department at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and, since 1980, has been a part of the violin faculty at the Juilliard School.

Biographical Information:
International concert tours as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and guest master classes. Carnegie Hall solo debut, 1985. Festival appearances, Spoleto, Rockport, Casals, Mostly Mozart, Nagano/Aspen, Aspen, Miyazaki International Chamber Music Festivals, and Viola Space. Television appearances, Great Performances series (PBS), NHK-TV Classic Hours, NHK-Television. Recordings on CBS, Sony, EMI, Nonesuch, Phillips, Bis, New World, Pantheon labels. Member, Theater Chamber Players of Kennedy Center; New Jersey Chamber Music Society; Bargemusic series; Linton Music series; Aspen Music Festival Artist-Faculty series. Juror for international competitions including Yehudi Menuhin and Lionel Tertis. Recipient, Presidential Scholars Program Teacher Recognition Award, 2004; Glover Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, 1990. Holder of Geraldine B. Gee Chair, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, since 1983. Head of string department, Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, since 1980. Faculty, Aspen Music Festival and School, since 1978; Philadelphia College of Performing Arts, 1980-83.
