TIRED OF BEING STUCK IN A PRACTICE ROOM?
String instruments reach across all genres, and the String Track at FASA is the most eclectic and energized summer experience available for string players. We dive into jazz improv, bluegrass fiddling, classical Franco-Belgian technique and more, all taught by some of the best teachers in the field: Nashville fiddlers, studio violinists, and Juilliard-trained classical players alike.
Best of all we put you on the stage with other enthusiastic players in a variety of styles and configurations, including:
Virtuosic Solos (if you can earn one)
Our mission is to give you a once-in-a-lifetime experience performing the most exciting music, at the highest level, on some of the world’s best stages.
“Who will I be studying with?”
The players of the Annie Moses Band head up the string faculty at FASA. Alongside AMB, we bring in top-notch teachers from leading conservatories across the country. Our goal is to challenge you technically and stylistically.
“Is FASA a classical camp or a bluegrass camp?”
Both! We give you rigorous classical technique through private lessons and challenging performance repertoire, as well as fast and high energy Celtic and bluegrass music.
“How much technique will I get at FASA?”
For players who want to receive maximum one-on-one attention as well as coaching in technique and life performance, we offer a special “prequel” to FASA: The Winter and Summer Woodsheds. Over several days, the members of Annie Moses Band rub shoulders with you and fifty other players in a series of master classes and private lessons. It’s perfect for someone who wants to take their prowess to the next level.
“I’m tired of practicing. How much will I get to perform at FASA?”
Our number one goal at FASA is to put you on a stage. We believe that the thrill of life performance is too rare for many young musicians. FASA puts you on professional-level stages where major artists come to perform and equips you with tailor-made moments that fit both your skill level and your artistic desires.
“Is string playing at FASA very advanced?”
Our in-house arrangers give us the ability to give you a part that fits your skill level, whether you are a beginner or a long-time performer. We do require that you have at least one year of study in your chosen instrument. Our vision is to give you a part that will challenge you and be thrilling to play.
“What kind of music will I be learning?”
Everything! From Celtic to Bluegrass, to Jazz to Classical. Each of our shows features a specific range of genres that enables us to give you a variety of moments that fit your personality.
“What does it take to earn a Solo?”
FASA’s casting process is based on your audition videos. For more information on how to film a great audition video, see the “Placement and Casting” section below the video. It’s important that we see that we see the best you have to offer as a performer. And if you have something you really love to do, please let us know. We want your experience at FASA to be unforgettable.
PLACEMENT AND CASTING
In order for us to maximize your experience at FASA, it is vital that we get to know you! Below is the process we require for all students.
1. Step 1: Register for FASA. Click the "apply now" button at the top of the screen to request a complete FASA application. Once your deposit has been received you are registered! Next step - casting video!
2. Step 2: Casting Video: Deadline May 15. If you register after May 15, please send the video as soon as possible.
Every student who registers must prepare a short (2-4 min.) video of themselves performing in their particular field of study.
Audition Tips: 1) Accompaniment is preferred and recommended. If you perform a cappella it is important that you demonstrate a sense of rhythm and intonation. The auditions should showcase range, style, and performance skill. 2) Choose a location that is well-lit. 3) Please stand for your performance and, if possible, film from a full-body camera angle. Avoid sitting or cropped angles that do not showcase your abilities. Show us your understanding of stage deportment through your look and dress. Introduce yourself and your song. We want to know about you, what you enjoy, what you do best. Let us know if you have a skill that is outside the parameters of the instruments included in FASA's tracks: Juggling, acrobatics, dulcimer, or other unique instruments. Because FASA's shows are customized, we can occasionally utilize such skills.
Instrumental Requirements (if applicable): 1-3 minute performance. Only 1 piece is required. If the student is participating in multiple fields please include video of each. If the student is interested in performing a vocal solo, please include video meeting the requirements of the vocal solo auditions.
Vocal Requirements (if applicable): 1 song of your choice representing the style you prefer to sing. Be sure an show us all we need to see of your vocal skill. If you feel multiple selections would be helpful in our assessment of your overall vocal range and skill feel free to include more than one song.
Once your registration and video have been complete we will begin the process of assessing the best place to challenge and showcase your talents in your classes and performances at FASA.
